Inside the Writing Companion

The Keeping Garden — Writing Companion
Bloom Conservatory · Collection I

Remembrance practiced as return.

A place to write through what you are learning to keep.

The Keeping Garden Writing Companion brings together botanical artwork, reflective readings, and guided writing pages for eight practices of living remembrance: Prune, Observe, Wait, Release, Tend, Steward, Share, and Return.

Each practice begins in the garden and opens into ordinary life—into the relationships we nurture, the work we carry, the changes we make room for, and the things entrusted to our care. A wallflower introduces the courage of careful intervention. A snowdrop asks what patience looks like after preparation is complete. An apple blossom reminds us that we often tend what someone else began.

Alongside these encounters, the writing pages invite you to make a record of your own: what you noticed, what changed, what you chose to do, and what became clearer when you returned.

Original watercolors by Victoria Rose Gray, reproduced from the Victoria Rose Collection, accompany the journey. Painted from life in Idaho Falls, Idaho, these flowers carry their own story of attention passed from mother to daughter—and onward to the Keeper who receives the book.

Inside, you’ll find:

  • Readings for all eight Garden Beds, bringing botanical observation into conversation with questions of care, belonging, and continuity.

  • Keeper’s Practice prompts to explore what each practice asks of you.

  • Records of Attention for noting the date, place, conditions, and changes you observe.

  • Pattern Cartography pages with room to trace connections through words, sketches, and maps.

  • Practice Records for documenting small actions, deliberate restraint, and what remains in process.

  • After Returning reflections to revisit what you tended and notice what has changed in you.

  • Open Field Notes for thoughts and observations you want to carry forward.

Move through the garden in sequence, or begin with the practice that meets your present season. You can write about a literal garden, a relationship, a creative project, a familiar place, or a responsibility you are learning to carry.

This is the expanded practice edition of The Keeping Garden, combining the collection’s readings with dedicated space for your participation. It can be used independently; owning The Field Keeper’s Book is not required.

Includes one spiral-bound writing companion. Part of The Keeping Garden, Bloom Conservatory’s contribution to What the Light Keeps, the first collection of Vapor & Bloom.
