A collection exploring anesthesia, memory, and the quiet mercy of what we are permitted to forget.

Four pieces are enough to tell the story.
The collection objects are available individually, with the paper works also gathered as a collection set.
Follow the Light
The first physical collection from Vapor Apothecary, gathered together. The Mercy of Forgetting - Collection Set No. 01 brings the collection's three primary objects into a single edition. A fourth, smaller provision is included from the Apothecary cabinet. Its form may vary from release to release.
The Observation Print preserves the visual and literary record. The Preparation Card offers a smaller object for keeping close. The Field Journal leaves space for a record of your own. Apothecary Observation No. 01 accompanies the set as its institutional insert. Together they carry the central promise of the collection: The patient is permitted to forget because another has agreed to remember.
WHAT ARRIVES
The print is sleeved and backed, the card is enclosed in glassine, and the journal is individually wrapped. The pieces are gathered with the insert and presented as one Vapor Apothecary collection.
Before the instrument, before the procedure, before forgetting, there is preparation.
The Preparation Card is the smallest formal object in The Mercy of Forgetting: an interpretive piece designed to be handled, kept nearby, tucked into a book, placed at a desk, or given to someone entrusted with care.
The ether apparatus and forget-me-nots return here in a more intimate form, carrying the collection from observation into ritual.
It is not a greeting card and requires no occasion.
It is simply a small preparation for the work of remembering what another person has been permitted to release.
Every act of care leaves a record. The Field Journal extends The Mercy of Forgetting beyond the exhibition and into the keeper's own hands. Its pages are left deliberately open: for observations, fragments, lists, preparations, ordinary details, or anything that deserves to be carried a little longer. The journal does not prescribe what should be remembered. It simply offers a place to keep it. Created as the participatory object of Vapor Apothecary's first collection, it is meant to be used rather than preserved untouched.
An ether apparatus rests among woodland forget-me-nots.
One allowed a patient to surrender consciousness. The other has long carried the language of remembrance. Together they hold the central promise of Vapor Apothecary's first collection: The patient is permitted to forget because another has agreed to remember.
The front serves as the visual record. The reverse preserves its literary and interpretive record. It may be framed image-side forward, displayed on a stand, or kept unframed as part of the collection. Even when unseen, the reverse remains present: another record carried behind the image.
The central image of The Mercy of Forgetting leaves the archive and becomes something worn.
John Snow's ether apparatus is held among forget-me-nots beneath the name of Vapor Apothecary, pairing anesthesia's history of merciful forgetting with the collection's language of entrusted remembrance.
Printed on a soft-washed, garment-dyed Comfort Colors shirt, the design is intentionally open rather than framed, allowing the botanical illustration and apparatus to sit naturally on the garment. A wearable record of Collection I.
KEEP THE LIGHT
SIZING LANGUAGE
The Comfort Colors 1717 has a relaxed unisex fit and is generally true to size. Choose your usual size for an easy fit, size down for a closer fit, or size up for an intentionally oversized fit. Subtle shade variations are part of the garment-dyed finish.
WHAT ARRIVES
Printed to order and fulfilled separately through Printify. Mixed apparel and studio-object orders may arrive in separate packages.
