Watch Record Cards — Set of 10
Night Shift Observatory · Collection I · The Light in Transit

Memory addressed to the future.

What you noticed may become what someone else needs.

The Watch Record Cards offer a simple structure for recording what you receive, what changes under your attention, and what needs to be carried forward. Each double-sided card holds one record of care, with space for both the observation and the handoff.

Created for The Light in Transit, Night Shift Observatory’s first collection, these cards bring the practice of watchkeeping into everyday life. They invite you to leave a clear account for the next person—or for yourself, returning later.

A project paused before completion. A shared responsibility changing hands. A familiar place observed over time. Something small that might otherwise be forgotten.

The record gives that attention somewhere to remain.

Each card moves through two sides:

  • Watch Record — Front: Fields for Time of Observation, Condition Received, Change Observed, and Action Taken establish what you encountered and how you responded.

  • Handed Forward — Reverse: Fields for Remains Unresolved, Handed Forward To, and Time Received make room for unfinished work and the person who will continue it.

The distinction matters: a watch can end while the work continues. Naming what remains unresolved is itself an act of care. It gives the next Keeper a place to begin.

Use the cards individually for a particular observation or handoff, or gather them over time as a record of ongoing attention. Their consistent format makes it easy to revisit earlier conditions, recognize changes, and understand what has already been done.

Each set includes 10 identical, double-sided Watch Record Cards, measuring 5 × 7 inches, with dedicated space for handwritten entries.

Use them on their own or alongside the Record of Watch Journal, available separately.

Part of The Light in Transit, Night Shift Observatory’s contribution to What the Light Keeps, the first collection of Vapor & Bloom.

Leave what you have noticed where another hand can find it.
